Our electronic resources are arranged alphabetically, below. 

Ancestry Library Edition is a tool for family history research. More than one and a half billion names are included.  It  includes records from the United States Census; military records; court, land and probate records; vital and church records; directories; passenger lists; and more.  Note: Ancestry Library Edition can only be accessed in the library.

ChiltonLibrary (Gale) Repair and maintenance information, wiring diagrams, technical service bulletins, and more.  

FirstSearch consists of 14 databases that help you locate articles, books, and conference proceedings.  Five of the databases have full-text articles available: ArticleFirst, ClasePeriodica, ECO, ERIC, and MEDLINE.  Illinois residents may access FirstSearch from home via the World Wide Web.  Call the library at (708) 532-0160 ext. 1 for the authorization and password.

Gale provides "one stop shopping" with a huge variety of full-text articles in 50 databases. Subjects range from academic research, to computer news and reviews, to nursing information -- and much, much more. If you select Gale Virtual Reference Library, you will be asked to type in the barcode from your library card to confirm you are a TPPL patron.

Grolier Online offers online access to "Lands and Peoples," an encyclopedia of countries, cultures, and current events for middle and high schools. If you select Grolier Online, you will be asked to type in the barcode from your library card to confirm you are a TPPL patron.

Heritage Quest Online is another family history research tool. Use it to search over 25,000 local history books, the U.S. Federal Census from 1790-1930, and other files.  If you select HeritageQuest, you will be asked to type in the barcode from your library card to confirm you are a TPPL patron. LearningExpressLibrary provides completely interactive online practice tests and tutorial courses designed to help you succeed on  academic or licensing tests . You'll get immediate scoring, complete answer explanations, and an individualized analysis of your results. Some of the practice tests included are for the ACT, SAT, ASVAB, GED, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, AP courses, PRAXIS, and civil service exams. Your username is your Tinley Park Library Card barcode and you choose your own password.

Mango Languages includes audio-visual lessons for sixteen languages, including Chinese (Mandarin), Farsi, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Registration requires an email address. Note: a Mango Languages app is available for Apple devices.

Mitchell OnDemand contains automobile repair information, including wiring diagrams, scheduled services, technical service bulletins, and diagnostic codes for foreign and domestic cars and trucks.  Note: Mitchell OnDemand can only be accessed in the library.

NewsBank includes full-text access to three local newspapers: the Chicago Sun-Times (1986 thru current), the [Joliet] Herald News (1997 thru current) and the SouthtownStar (2007 thru current). (Note: for pre-1986 articles in the Chicago Tribune, refer to Proquest Chicago Tribune (Historical) -- see below.) Please click on the desired title for access.

NoveList Plus is a database that provides subject headings, reviews, annotations, and much more for over 150,000 fiction and 50,000 nonfiction books. It also includes other content of interest to readers, such as Author Read-alikes, Book Discussion Guides, BookTalks, and Feature Articles. For school media specialists and teachers there are Standards-Based Thematic Units and Picture Book Extenders, as well as specific teaching guides for classroom use. Tinley Park and Orland Hills residents may access NoveList from home.  Call the library at (708) 532-0160 ext. 1 for the user id and password.

ProQuest Newsstand covers nearly 500 U.S. and international newspapers and business journals, with most articles available in full-text. The Chicago Tribune is included, with coverage from 1986 to the present. When searching ProQuest Newsstand from home, you will be asked to type in the barcode from your library card to confirm that you are a TPPL patron. 

ProQuest Chicago Tribune (Historical) contains the full text of the newspaper from 1849 through 1985 (except for classified advertisements). When searching ProQuest Chicago Tribune from home, you will be asked to type in the barcode from your library card to confirm that you are a TPPL patron. 

Proquest Obituaries offers more than 10.5 million obituaries and death notices from selected major newspapers: Chicago Tribune (from 1849); Chicago Defender (from 1909-1975); New York Times (from 1851); Los Angeles Times (from 1881); Boston Globe (from 1872-1923); Washington Post (from 1877); and the Atlanta Constitution (from 1868-1929). When searching ProQuest Obituaries from home, you will be asked to type in the barcode from your library card to confirm that you are a TPPL patron. 

Reference USA is a residential and business telephone directory for the United States available at the library.  When searching Reference USA from home, you will be asked to type in the barcode from your library card to confirm that you are a TPPL patron. 

SWAN is our online public access catalog.  You may use SWAN to locate books, CDs, DVDs, etc. in our collection (or in the collections of other local libraries). If you do not have Internet access at home, but have a modem you may dial into the SWAN database. 

Tinley Park Code of Ordinances provides online access to the Code of Ordinances for Tinley Park.  (A print copy is also available at the library.  The print edition is for in-library use only, and may be obtained by inquiring at the Adult Services Desk.)

TumbleBookLibrary consists of a variety of resources for beginning readers. Included is a set of animated children's storybooks written by various authors (a narrator reads aloud as you view the text on the screen); language learning books; and puzzles and games to entice new readers. Available from home; no login required.

TumbleReadables includes books suitable for all ages, from very young readers through young adults. As with the TumbleBookLibrary, a narrator reads the words aloud as you follow the text on your computer screen. Available from home; no login required.

World Book Online contains the World Book Encyclopedia, Research Libraries and World Book Enciclopedia Estudiantil Hallazgos (a Spanish encyclopedia).  The Research Libraries contains over 5,500 complete books and 260,000 documents, many of which are primary sources (e.g. eyewitness accounts, speeches, supreme court rulings, and treaties).  When accessing World Book Online from home, you will be asked to type in the barcode from your library card to confirm you are a TPPL patron.
