The Youth Services Department has a collection for parents, including a variety of books, CDs, DVDs, and magazines that are intended to support you in your role as a parent or caregiver.
The book collection covers a wide range of relevant topics for parenting, including the following:
- Pregnancy and preparing for a new baby
- Toddler milestones
- Developing skills for school by grade level
- Styles of discipline
- Materials for parents of children with special needs
Parenting CDs and DVDs
- Baby Einstein and Brainy Baby collections
- Sign Language
- Games, exercising, and dancing
- Potty training
Early Language Development
This resource, which can be accessed at the library or from home with a valid Tinley Park Public Library card number, offers fun and interactive tutorials, videos, and activities for young children learning languages, including the following:
- English (ESL)
Magazines for Parents
The library subscribes to a number of parenting magazines, including Family Fun and Practical Homeschooling. Additionally, free parenting magazines are also available, including Chicago Parent, Chicago Special Parent, Going Places, and Family Time.
Play Area for Kids & Families
Under the star in the Youth Services Department, we have provided a play area for children and parents, including puzzles and board games. Games for older kids are also available throughout the department. This is also a great place for you and your child to enjoy a book together.
