BE A PART OF WHAT WE DO AT THE TINLEY PARK PUBLIC LIBRARY
Join our Summer 2019 teen volunteer team and know that you spent your summer making a difference!
APPLICATION PROCESS AND TRAINING SESSION
You must fill out and submit this application by Saturday, May 25.
All volunteers must attend a training session on Wednesday, June 5 at 7 pm. If you are unable to attend this training session, please consider volunteering with us in the fall instead. Volunteers will receive one hour of service credit for attending the training.
Parents are encouraged to attend their teen's training session. While this is not mandatory, parents may find it beneficial. We will explain the summer volunteer program, discuss what is expected of volunteers, and go over scheduling.
Students finishing grades 6–12 are eligible to volunteer at the library. Each student must commit to a minimum of 12 service hours during the summer. Students must be residents of Tinley Park or Orland Hills, attend a school in either community, or be a member of an organization in our service area.
Students may volunteer to earn service hours for a religious organization, for school requirements, or "just for fun." At this time, we are unable to accept court-ordered service hours. Letters of completion will be mailed to you on September 15.
HOW IT WORKS
Summer hours for 2019 will be completed between June 11 and August 23.
We need help with a variety of activities this summer! Read below to see which interests you:
Booth Volunteers: Will give out prizes to summer reading participants. Other duties as assigned. Each shift is 2 hours.
Program Volunteers: Assist librarians with programs for children ages 3–10. This will include setup, clean up, crafts, and games. Shift lengths vary.
On Thursday, June 6 at 7 pm, we will send an email with a link to the volunteer opportunities for the month of June. This email will be sent to the email address indicated on your application. We will send out an additional email containing the opportunities for July and August at 7 pm on June 20. If you do not receive our email on the 20th, please check your spam/junk folder for the email. If the email is not there, please call us at 708.532.0160, x 2.
Volunteer opportunities are first-come, first-served. Because our needs determine the number of volunteer opportunities available, the library may not be able to meet all of the hours you need for any outside volunteer requirements.
Missing a scheduled volunteer time without prior notification will result in removal from our active volunteer database. This means you will no longer be notified when volunteer opportunities arise. In addition, if you miss your scheduled volunteer time, we will inform the organization sponsoring your volunteer work.
