Next month, we honor June 19th, known as Juneteenth. On this day in 1865, more than 250,000 enslaved African Americans in Galveston Bay, Texas celebrated the news of their freedom. This day is also known by other names, such as Jubilee Day, Freedom Day, and Emancipation Day.
