This presentation focuses on helping seniors and families preserve homeownership and generational wealth. Topics include being on title and Transfer on Death Instruments (TODIs), a planning tool that allows homeowners to transfer ownership outside of probate court. Presented by Eva Adams-Ward, a Staff Attorney with the Center for Disability & Elder Law. Signup required.
The Housing Preservation Project (HPP) provides legal assistance to cost-burdened senior homeowners in Cook County who are dealing with issues that may jeopardize their ability to keep their homes. Assistance is provided for issues such as title correction, property tax matters and tax exemptions, and foreclosure and building code violation defense. They also work with homeowners to create a succession plan so they may leave it as a legacy for their loved ones.

SPEAKER BIO:
Eva Adams-Ward is a Staff Attorney leading CDEL’s Housing Preservation Project. In this role, she provides legal assistance related to homeownership concerns such as identifying and resolving title issues, planning for succession of homes, claiming property tax exemptions, and defending against foreclosure and building violation cases. She started at CDEL in 2023 as a Kott Gerontology Scholar during law school. Eva joined CDEL in September 2024.
Eva earned her Juris Doctor from the Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2024 and received recognition for her leadership, and service to public interest. She received a Masters of Arts in Liberal Studies from Northwestern University in 2017 and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2012.
