Virtual Services Librarian - Full Time

Job Description:

Our newly-created Virtual Services Department provides digital services to library patrons of all ages. Responsibilities in this full-time position include website and database management; teaching patron computer classes; staff training.

The successful candidate will be a creative, productive, forward-thinking team player with a strong customer service philosophy. Skills and attitudes needed to be successful in this position include an eagerness to explore and employ emerging technologies to enhance patrons’ library experience; strong communication skills both in one-on-one encounters with patrons and in classroom settings; and the ability to write and speak fluent English.

Works under the supervision of the Virtual Services Manager. The Tinley Park Public Library serves both the communities of Tinley Park and Orland Hills with a combined population of 63,852 residents.

Job Hours:

Full-time (40 hours per week) weekdays, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Evening and weekend hours may be required.


An ALA-accredited MLS degree; two years’ experience in the administration of various virtual services in a library setting; strong command of content management systems, preferably Drupal; Microsoft Office Suite proficiency; teaching experience; strong command of databases, ebooks, social media, current mobile devices across multiple platforms; ability to maintain a pleasant demeanor when working with diverse clientele; demonstrable ability for clear written and oral communication. All requirements must be met.


$45,093-$56,365 commensurate with experience.
