THERE IS CURRENTLY ONE POSITION AVAILABLE
Youth Services Librarian — Full Time
Our department’s friendly, dedicated, and talented group provides services to library patrons from birth through grade 12 and their caregivers. The primary responsibilities in this full-time position are assisting patrons with reference and reader’s advisory, collection development, assisting patrons with digital services on their devices or ours, school visits, programming for school-aged children and babies or toddlers, and general departmental duties as assigned. We want to hear your ideas for new projects and services, and you’ll be part of a team of ten other full-and part-time department members you can call upon for creative input and experience. Help may be needed in presenting programs for teens or preschoolers.
The skills needed to be successful in this position providing customer-focused library services include: excellent listening and analytical skills to determine how policy guides the process of fulfilling patron needs, and when an exception may be the best decision for good customer service; strong computer and technology skills including mobile devices; proficiency using Microsoft Office and iWorks software; search strategies in a variety of search engines; extensive knowledge of children’s literature; familiarity with teen literature; ability to speak to a group in school classrooms and at library events; continual learning to evaluate how emerging technology can enhance library services to the public. Works under the supervision of the Youth Services Manager. The Tinley Park Public Library serves both the communities of Tinley Park and Orland Hills with a combined population of 63,852 residents. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent oral communication and well as the ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
Full-time position: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30–5, Thursdays from 12:30–9, and a weekend rotation of every fourth Saturday 8:30–5 and Sunday 11:30–5.

Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited graduate school
Two years’ work experience with children
Public library work experience
Experience presenting story times to babies or toddlers
Access to transportation
Evening and weekend hours required
