Adult Services Librarian – Full Time
- Job Description:
The Tinley Park Public library is seeking an energetic, positive, and service-oriented individual to join our Adult Services team. We’re looking for a proactive person who has excellent communication and interpersonal skills, adapts easily to change, and is comfortable with technology.
Primary duties include coordinating our readers’ advisory services, teaching technology classes, providing virtual and traditional reference services, collection development in assigned areas, and assisting patrons with technology on a range of devices and platforms.
The successful candidate will be a creative, productive, forward-thinking team player with a strong customer service orientation. Skills and attitudes needed to be successful in this position include a broad knowledge of adult genres and popular materials; an eagerness to explore and employ emerging technologies to enhance patrons’ library experience; and strong communication skills both in one-on-one encounters with patrons and in classroom and book discussion settings.
Works under the supervision of the Adult Services Manager. The Tinley Park Public Library serves both the communities of Tinley Park and Orland Hills with a combined population of 63,852 residents.
- Job Hours:
This full-time position (40 hours per week) includes daytime and evening hours and every fourth weekend.
- Monday & Tuesday 12:30–9 pm
- Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday 8:30 am–5 pm
- Group 2: Saturday shift 8:30 am–5 pm; and Sunday shift 11:30 am–5 pm.
An ALA-accredited MLS degree; two years’ experience in reference or virtual services in a library setting; Microsoft Office Suite proficiency; teaching experience; strong command of databases, ebooks, social media, current mobile devices across multiple platforms; ability to maintain a pleasant demeanor when working with diverse clientele; demonstrable ability for clear written and oral communication.
