What is Geocaching?
Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices or Google Maps. Participants navigate to a specific set of coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. Each cache holds a log sheet that you are to sign your name on.
Participating in the ATLAS Library Geocaching Competition
For this year's Multi-library Geocaching Event, 24 total libraries are participating. All of these libraries have hidden a cache somewhere on the premises of their library. Some caches require more than one step to find— for example, GPS coordinates might take you to step 1, and step 1 will lead you to step 2, the actual cache.
- Each time you discover a geocache, complete a prize drawing ticket at the participating library.
- The more caches you find and prize drawing tickets you complete, the better your chances of winning a $25 gift card in the prize drawing.
- All ages welcome!
- All patrons who wish to participate for these prizes must also hold a valid library card with an ATLAS member library and be in good standing.
- To get started, pick up your clue card at the Adult Reference Desk.
